Finally Starting to Click

It’s amazing how fast it goes. I’m 1/8th a doctor.  I finished my first semester of medical school and had 2 weeks of vacation to let that fun fact soak in. and that’s about the extent of what I did over my Christmas break.  That and relax with my family.

In three days I’ll kick my ass kicked (again) by back to back physiology and histology exams.  What’s histology you ask? Good question.  I didn’t know until about 2 weeks into the start of the course.  It’s a fancy term for micro-anatomy, i.e. what our bodies look like through a microscope.  We get to look at pretty pictures of tissue samples and guess where we are in the body.  Who would have thought that the kidney’s filtration system looks almost identical to the lung’s respiratory lining.  Oh those creative barriers our body creates to separate what we want in and what we want out.

In addition to my physiology and histology classes, I started my public health classes this month…7 grad level credits.  And I decided to use all my extra free time (please note the sarcasm…) to start doing research on hospice and end of life care.  Oh, AND, I’m running a marathon in 2 weeks.

I’m not complaining.  Seriously.  I’m just busy.  But I love it.  There’s a strange sense of accomplishment every night when I fall asleep.  I worked really hard all day.  I’m learning a lot, getting back in shape, and managing to enjoy myself along the way. I guess things are finally starting to click. See now, writing a quick little blog wasn’t so hard.

But as always, back to studying…
